Vic / Tony,
Can you create an upload folder on the server so as we can all upload sample code/ examples and documents. Limit access to members only. i.e. No Guest uploads.

Hi, guys,

I am having a problem finding a nice module to store files for the development forum. SourceForge sounds like the best way to proceed, but it is really complicated and I have never used it. Has anyone used Sourceforge before? And if so, what is the best way to go about it? I need help.

Best regards,
Vic

Vic,
We could always upload to rapidshare but it's not ideal as it won't stay that long. I was just looking for a means for members uploading and sharing sourcecode that would be locked to this forum i.e members who are giving privilege to both upload and then download.

Hi, guys,

looked around, and for right now, it seems like rapidshare is the easiest way, because I am concerned about people starting to upload Genesys-related stuff and I really do not want to have to deal with Genesys over it.

Checking and deleting the offending files is possible, but do we really want to do that?

Tony, what do you think?

Guys,

after a lot of testing with different things I could find on the web I have concluded that SMF does not really have a very good package handling files. Even though this can be just because I have failed to find something obvious (please DO tell me if there is a package that allow you to install a place for people to upload their files) I have decided to open a sub-forum, which would hold posts with attachments.
I wish there was a way to make it such that people would be able to categorize that their uploading, but presently there does not seem to be a way to do it.

What do you think?

I have a piece of software that can do just what you want, but it does not integrate with SMF, I'll see if I can find one that will.

Vic,

You currently allow file attachments to posts.  Why not just create a separate top-level forum for File Storage, and people can post there with attachments that others could be able to download?  Ensure SMF is configured to allow attachments for members only, and potentially increase the current 1MB file size limitation for attachments...

Seems like the easiest solution for the moment, though I'd agree that your concern about people uploading Genesys components is a very legitimate one...

Dave and Sy278:)

I guess this is the direction I will take until there is something coming from SMF.
Considering the level of traffic we are starting to get and the dependence of people on the timely replies, I am very very very hesitant about adding something that might take us down.

I AM surprised that there is no built-in UPLOAD SPACE in SMF. It seems to be one of the best bulletin boards around and yet not having this upload feature is not something I comprehend.

Regardng legitimate Genesys uploads, I think that we will take wait and see approach. I would hate to start  :)> this site, but there is always a chance that someone will try to start uploading the whole Genesys Framework CD and we do not want that. (Nor really need).

Oh, by the way, Quest Server is finished, but I need somebody to help to translate the GUI from Japanese into English (since we are using a lot of Japanese developers here)
