GVP Upgrade using H.323 with Avaya
« on: February 18, 2008, 04:53:42 PM »
We are planning to upgrade from GVP 6.5 to 7.6 and came across an issue...

We are running an Avaya S8700 hybrid switch on CM 2.2 and were looking to switch to an IP GVP solution.  Does anyone have an idea what, if any, role an Avaya AES Server plays in an IP GVP solution?  Seems like one of our vendors is telling us that we will have to upgrade the switch to CM 3.x and get at least 1 AES Server.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

I'm not Avaya expert but I don't see any reason for implementation of AES in case of using H.323 or SIP for GVP integration. For SIP integration you will need SIP Enablement Services that works as a SIP gateway for external media servers. H.323 should be supported "out-of-box".

I have experience with integration of GVP 7.5 with Avaya CM 2.2 via SIP. We were facing several issues related to SES configuration (experience Avaya consultant is needed ;)) and integration with Framework but finally solved them.

  • Hi Rene,
do you know how do we define the port range in avaya?
Should we configure the port range as SIP extention?

    Thank you

  • Hi Dimitris,

I'm not 100 % sure what you mean by "port range" but will try to help you ;)... Yes, GVP ports have to be defined as SIP extensions on Avaya side as the deployment mode is "behind-switch". GVP will subscribe (SIP SUBSCRIBE) these SIP extensions at the start-up so it will be notified about any incoming call on that extension. Each GVP port has to have name that matches extension provisioned on Avaya e.g. GVP port 1234 = assigned to Avaya SIP extension 1234.

    Hope it helps you

  • Hi Rene,
    thank you for your response.
When we Edit the Host Contact section the contact shoulld be as contact=$(user)@10.10.10.10:port;transport=udp. What should be the user value and which port should be used (i.e. the listening port or the SIP port) and what exactly should be used as a pattern in thee Edit Media Server Map Entry section.
    Regards,

  • Hi Rene,

Do you know if we have to declare these sip extensions as OPS in the ACM ?

  • Dimi, George,

Sorry but I can't help. I haven't seen/touched Avaya for long time (year+) and my notes doesn't include detailed information about Avaya configuration.

There is a document available on Genesys Technical Support site describing integration between Avaya and GVP using Genesys SIP Server. Maybe you'll find some helpful information there. Document describing such integration without SIP Server isn't available as Genesys doesn't support it officially (as I know).

  • Hi Rene,
We are planning to use GVP 7.5 and IP based solution for IVR.We have Avaya S8700 switch. Do we need to install a Genesys SIP server also or does GVP connect to Avaya SES directly.

Thanks for your help in advance.

  • Hi UD,

Both ways are possible but I'm not sure Genesys does officially support integration without SIP Server. I have experience with direct integration - no SIP Server - and it works. But I heard there are some issues with particular SES versions and that could be a reason why Genesys suggests using of SIP Server.

PS. I think it's possible to order SIP Server as part of GVP for such integration purposes. Of course, you can use it for pre-routing only.
