Solutions, as well as Answers...?
« on: July 04, 2007, 11:16:19 AM »
Funny thing I noticed today;  I have a tendancy to trawl the most recent posts and see if I can help out (which isn't that often!).  I also posted an item which was apropo nothing previous and it got me thinking... (yeah - I know...  ::) )

I "find" tweaks and little gems in the course of my day to day work but there's not really anywhere to place them.  No one asks the question, so no need to venture the information I might have gathered.  Then I thought; what a waste to withold knowledge purely based on the fact that no-one has asked the question yet.

I did start my Y! Group with the intention of offering advice and such, based on what the members find, ongoing.  My intention was to provide an all-encompassing and relevant source/resource for information about any of the Genesys Solution products.

So... how about it?  Hints and Tips, Tweaks, Shortcuts (careful!), Gotchas, Best Practice - all of those things we could come up against at any time and those of us who have been through the pain - and lived to tell the tale!

Any takers for this sort of idea transposed onto the Forum?  It could be as simple as posting an item with a particular icon associated to it and a "meaningful" Subject Heading...?

Good evening, Tony, I think it would a really fun thing to do, but I think there was already a site for it - forgot the name though!

One problem with CMS that I have is that there is no simple way to create an FAQ where everyone can contribute their own tweak - something like GeneWiki that Pavel was talking about. I wonder if there is a CMS component that would allow us to do it.

As for trawling looking for ways to help - thank you!!! I am trying my best to answer as many questions as I can, but someone of them are a bit way too difficult - especially those from you!!!!    :'(

i still thyink some sort of meta-data to enclose with the post would be really useful in getting what we need.

  • meta-tags - I seem to remember we've been here before... ?

Whatever does the trick but I don't think there is any harm in the promotion of contributions from individuals and allowing them to add their own content here - even if it does not have an "issue" to answer.

I guess I have already started doing it but thought it might deserve a wider audience...?

I have been looking at different SMF modules, but nothing seems to be worth a second look yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ah - yeah but - no but... Pavel is looking out for the wiki.

I am thinking that, if solution tweaks spring to mind (to anyone - not just me!) and the thought at the point of discovery is "that would have been useful to know before I started...", then we should consider publish that information here.

I really think we should help Pavel with his Wiki, because it would be a great source of basic information which we would not have here. Of course, writing those articles is a total pain in a .... well you know where, but still, with SIP, GVP and who knows what else out there, I think we should definitely help him out.

One thing I am concerned with is if his Wiki is using the same software as Wikipedia. It would be a good idea to make sure that it has all the functionality we need.

I've finished my (very) Rough Guides to Genesys!  ;D

    So, for anyone who needs to start at the beginning and for those who possibly don't have a clue about Genesys but would like a starting point, I've built up some really basic guide documents to;

    Genesys Solutions
    Genesys Framework
Genesys Configuration (including config server and CME)
Genesys Management (including SCS and SCI)
Genesys (Inbound Voice) Routing Solution (including URS and IRD)
Genesys Outbound (including OCS, CPD and OCM)
Genesys Real Time Reporting (including StatServer and CCPulse+)
Genesys Historical Reporting (including DMA, ETL, StatServer and Brio Enterprise Server (ODS and Broadcast Server and Brio Client (Designer))
Genesys Workforce Management (Framework and WfM Config Manager)
Genesys MCR (IXNServer, GAD and GSD - and very little about Content Analyzer)

My only "problem" now is, what media to save them in?  They are in Word but that's hardly worthy of a restricted distribution.  Perhaps Adobe Acrobat Writer?  Or maybe I should upload them to Pavel's GenWiki...?  Does anyone know what might be the best medium?  What I want to do is to be able to maintain them (via version control?) and also find a way so that they can't be pilfered but make them easy to navigate and refer to...
