Change of audio codecs for different region communication.
« on: August 04, 2014, 06:31:07 AM »
Our customer has a requirement to change the audio codecs for a region where the agents are present to G711 and if the agent transfers the call to another location (geographical) in the network the codecs used should be G729. The main reason behind is to save the bandwidth.

Is the above mentioned scenario possible in Genesys? As per them in CISCO gateway they can define regions (between and within) with different codecs. They expect this to be possible in genesys.

Appreciate any help or suggestions. If you need more clarification on this please feel free to ask.

Thank You & BR
Rashid

It is not necessary, because if your CiscoGW does not allow any other codec for communication for each region, the SIP server will choose this codec for communication. Of course, both codecs must be configured within list of possible codecs on SIP server object within CME.

They are saying it is possible in CiscoGW. They can define regions and any communication happening within the region will use G711 codec and communication between different regions will use G729.

But in our SIP server object, the only possibility is to define the possible codecs where we can provide both g711 and g729 right? We cannot differentiate between different regions right?

Within Genesys the regions don't exist - it is propably PBX related term. But If I remember properly, you can define the possible list of codecs on DN-level. But, I still say that it is not necessary if the option is on CiscoGW, which is the right point to achieve it.

Hi,

The overall architecture is not clear here e.g. is this pure Genesys or are there Cisco gateways involved as well. At the end of the day this is down to codec negotiation between the endpoints and the associated codec preferences. Genesys will just pass this through in SIP signalling and there is no need to play with SIPS options to manipulate the SDP etc.

So if the endpoint in a particular region has G.729 as its preference and the other endpoint supports it then that is what would be negotiated end to end.
