Registration is temporarily disabled
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:47:18 PM »
Hi all,

It seems that spam bots decide to become our members and 'bombing' our forum with registrations :(

Registration of new members is disabled temporarily due to this reason. I'll update this topic once it is open again.

Sorry for any inconveniences.

Rene, we have a boatload of new people registering again. I do not understand how they get past CAPTCHA and basic questions!!! This is very weird! I wonder if it is OpenID. I have disabled it - let's see if this will stem the flow. I just doubt that computers would understand how to reply to such an intelligent question as what is the capital of UK!

TIL: England is not a country.  :-\

Hi Vic,

I don't understand either how they pass captcha and the questions... I was thinking about making the questions most difficult e.g. what is capital of Czech Republic (my country) but had doubts if it isn't too difficult even for human being ;)

Hope that disabling OpenID will help. We should do some cleaning of member's database as there are thousands of registered bots and it would be nightmare if they 'wake up'

@Pavel - Thanks for supporting me :)

R.

PS. England is definitely country - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England - as Wikipedia never lies ;)

..... oh boy....  ;D

England is a country on the island of Great Britain, on which there are 3 countries  - England, Wales and Scotland. Ireland is also an island but comprising of 2 countries (Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). Great Britain and N. Ireland are the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland aka the UK. The Republic used to be part of the UK until about 90 years ago..... Before the Republic became independent there were also 4 countries in the UK and not 5 as logic would dictate.

How to open up a can of worms.... ;D ;D
