66,000 USD Universal SDK ?!
« on: December 16, 2009, 06:05:37 PM »
Hi, guys,

to be frank, I am a bit shocked and trying to understand how this is possible. We were going to develop a softphone for the client, and we were told that we need to buy Universal SDK. (Platform SDK does not seem to be available anymore for some strangely peculiar reason). Ok, makes sense. Then, we were quoted 66,000 USD for the darn thing. Am I the only one who thinks that this is ridiculous? I heard that before it was around 20,000 USD...

Since we are buying our licenses through a vendor on this one, who buys it from ALU, I checked with ALU and they told me that this is the normal price. Anyone knows what these things go for these days? If developers are required to pay 60,000 USD just to develop a softphone for the client and then will need to pay license for every softphone seat used by it, I am frankly going to sit down and think twice about whether or not we should just develop a softphone for Avaya switch instead and keep 60,000 USD and whatever "Agent Connector" licenses fee to myself.

60,000 USD... Just to get SDK to develop a softphone that Genesys will still charge license for... Yeah, right....

If you asked to ALU then I will consider it twice, try to get Genesys involved directly...they usually don't know exactly what to sell...

I'm not sure where that number came from. I can tell you exactly what Genesys charges...

$25k US for the Universal SDK (includes ALL Genesys SDKs)

There is also a runtime license for deploying the app. The price depends on the type of integration.

By the way, PSDK is still available for no-cost and no runtime fees if it's for a voice-only agent desktop (replacement for an old tlib sdk app for example).

Thank you for your prompt replies! Based on it, we have talked to Genesys Japan and yes, it seems like Universal SDK for Voice only is free. Plus the rest is about 25,000 USD or so. So, this 66,000 USD quote through ALU and its vendor is frankly a total disappointment. Now, I am wondering if all the licenses we are buying from them are as overpriced as well.

Hi Vic,

You can download up-to-date price list from Genesys Xchange website. Partner login is required to access that site.

Prices for the same product could differ between the regions but $66k for Universal SDK is quite overpriced. I think it's worth to have serious discussion with your vendor ;)

I would like to refer the honorable gentleman to the Genesys Straw Poll Survey I built recently...

10. What do you think is the *worst* of Genesys? (pick as many as you want...)
              Votes                        Percent
Products  12                              9.45%
Pricing    42                              33.07%
Training  18                              14.17%
Support  33                              25.98%
(Professional/Business) Services
              22                            17.32%

"Pricing" takes a bashing...  ::)

Guys, I think we may have to move this pricing stuff to a more private area, we don't want end users to find out real prices as we have to make some profit over them...
