Self made Bootcamp
« on: July 20, 2009, 09:02:52 AM »
Hi All!

We all be the match thankfully for great Pavel's job - The Wire Magazine. But that do u think about the strange idea that came in my mind today morning  - bring to all the live conversation and the funny live meeting samethere around the world. Well , i'll try be the more complexly. We can rent for week or about it something like the small and not so expensive hostel somewhere in Europe. And for this week try to do more friendly with each other and also share knowledge and may be setting up one or more demo labs. And maybe someone wants to hold something like a small presentations ?

My point what the official Genesys events - it's an event for a sale or marketing guyz only. But look at the Cisco  - their technical staff got the Cisco Expo what have the technical presentation for a first role. Look at the Microsoft - their have the TechEd. And i want the samething like it for a Genesys-world.

Well, frends  - what do u thing about it ? I want too much ? =)

Hi Timur,

The concept is a good one - but, as you may imagine, it has been tried before.  A User-Based conference would benefit us all, away from the razzamatazz of Sales and Marketing.  These do already exist, within Genesys - I attended a User Conference at the BT Tower in central London, only last month... However, the Genesys User Conferences are by invite only and if you are a contractor or "freelancer", then I don't think you will be on the invite list.  To me, this is because Genesys supports it's customer base - the ones who pay the bills.  Those of us who may be on the periphery of this customer base can only hope to be included, by invitation through the Genesys customer...

To arrange an independant User Conference away from the mainstream Genesys events is a large undertaking (and I am not volunteering!). However - I think Genesys might be able to accomodate a "User Group" at their G-Forces, if this is deemed appropriate.  I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask them...?  Again, this would depend on a persons ability to attend the G-Force in the first instance but it is, imho, far easier to meet at G-Force than trying to stage an event "on our own".

What do you think?

Tony

Hi Timur and Tony,

A number of people know that the idea of a user conf was discussed with Genesys at the beginning of 2008. The original idea was changed and changed and changed by G over time until it was reduced in size and location. Eventually G canned the idea with the organiser (double crossed?) but 2 weeks later announced the SDK Workshop (big success? Nope). The flaw in the idea was to think that G would spend more than a few dollars\euros on their user base - they love giving out false hopes. Anyways it proves G don't understand their userbase and in fact can be very <censored > toward us. Out of the idea of a user conference came The Wire, but that's another story.

Knowing now how Genesys mind works this will only work if we fund it ourselves via selling tickets. As a figure to think about, are you or anyone else prepared to pay 300 euros per person for 5 days of a bootcamp\user conf? If the answer is yes then the idea has legs. We can not rely on Genesys to fund anything (because they wont), if they do then they will control everything so they will force us to listen to what BS they want us to see\hear not what we want.

I have lots of info from the investigations we made last time around - I was the idiot that got taken for a ride by G. I'm prepared to organise it because I believe in the idea but to do it I\we'd need support from the whole Genesys world.

Regards,

Pavel

Right some ideas for a user conference:

• Location has to be easy to get to
• Location has to have reasonable weather (London in January is not a good idea)
• Location has to be a 'nice' place to visit - Not too nice otherwise the bosses will want to come as well.
• A number of tracks (technical and business) to be offered (1 day long each), repeated as the odds are that 2 of the tracks you want to follow will be held simultaneously.
• Each track has to have an educational value
• Ideas for Tracks - Inbound, Outbound, VOIP, Infomart, WFM, iWD etc
• Genesys invited to help but we run the conf
• Reasonable pricing (this is difficult as running a conf is not cheap)
• Anyone who wants to buy a ticket is welcome to do so.
• Alternatives\Improvements to Genesys products can openly be discussed.
• Conference is about networking, sharing of ideas
• Number one rule – it must be enjoyable!

To be clear; I would prefer it if Genesys could convene a "User" User Conference themselves but, having had the experience recently, I think their User Conferences are still concentrated on customers who are business managers and not on collaborations from the community who work with their technologies.  I guess it's a case of semantics, at the end of the day...  ;D

OK - My thoughts aside, perhaps you should start looking at the major players' corporate calendars, to see if you can snag a (side-) conference room at one of their events..? Much better to get it sponsored/hosted than trying to get it all off the ground yourself...

:)

I think it's a brilliant idea. Not only getting together in a hostel or camp side is enough. To my humble opinion, we need to organize a meeting room, where we can have workshops and seminars.

Telling the truth, although I have had no hands-on programming on Genesys since 2007, I try hard to follow up the latest changes in the industry. Well, not for Genesys, but I could share with you the important aspects on telephony programming (TAPI, CTI, and etc.), CRM, billing & rating, and web service applications for Avaya.

Please keep me in loop...

Cheers,

Ali

Hmmm, a boot camp for Genesys? I don't see why not!

It would be a good idea to summarize the benefits of attending it?

Everyone,

Not wanting to hijack this thread completely, but.......

The whole idea would be for techies\companies to share ideas and code. Each track could be a day's mix of lectures\demos\discussions\QandA sessions on a subject. Lets say there is a SIP track, we could invite Genesys to talk for 45 mins on SIP Server, Vic you're pretty hot on SIP so you may want to talk about the practicalities of SIP, someone else may discuss different SIP gateway hardware etc.

Rather than me list some possible tracks, what tracks would everyone want to see?

Hi all!

My  compulsive thoughts about possible track. =)
SIP it's a great and mast be on board at any chance. But this track shall be not only just about how to set it up and run in production. It's track must cover info about HA environment, about setting up the communicate  with other devices such the voice gateway, end-user phone and terminals. What about remote agent? May be for this part we can invite third-party company  (such the Audiocodes, Snoom, etc) as sponsor their own track about their devices? Also what about troubleshooting problem? View and parsing the log files. Using the technical tools like the Kazmir? Something else? Question about integration with GVP or GCIP ?

Another much interesting subject - universal routing services. What about setting up and configure for use not in simple one-site environment but for use in the much more complexly HA, multy-site, multy-tenansy CC?  Tips&Trick for build voice routing strategy? Use the URS for route multimedia interaction? Build the business process routing strategy? And again  - troubleshooting problem, view and parsing the log files.

Workforce management. What track exactly for user only! Hey technical guyz - do u remember any seriously technical problem with this one ? I think no. But every time we have more and more question from supervisor and scheduling managers like the - how to i can do it?!  And also in this track or at the URS-based track we can talk about build the strategy against the WFM services, schedules and  and statistics.
Also may be someone can provide same info about iWD solution ?

Well, what next? I think the Genesys Active Desktop and question about use the his ability for customizing the user workspace may be also the interesting topic for conversation. And again - seting up, configuring the environment for use at the distributed high-load  CC.

What next? GVP? GCIP? I don't know much more about this solution. May be someone can tell something?

I don't think what we need independent track about framework, but may be we can look at the new future in the version 8 against current 7.x ?

At the last but not least  - what do u say about call the Genesys support - talk about how to use the support.genesyslab.com most efficiently ? =)

WBR Timur Karimov aka Tim Thaler

P.S 2 Pavel - i'm on volunteer board with u at any way =)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your input so far. I was thinking a day per track but it may have to be a couple of days each. Timur, which track do you want to run? Tony looks like he's doing Reporting.

I know someone who works for 'a very large hotel chain' and she is getting costs for a certain hotel here in the UK. I have been promised them for Monday.  I've asked for 3 days in March 2010. I think we should all see the approx ticket prices before going too far.

What do you think Vic, Cav, Rene, Steve, Mark, Ecki, Paul et al?

Let's wait for the price so that we can understand whether it's feasible. Probably doing it over a weekend would allow much more people to attend.
