Is there an Out-of-the Box Softphone using Voice Platform SDK like Genesys Starter App that we can use right away (and maybe customize )?

  • On RevGen I believe there was something. If you have access you can download it.

Thanks, but I do not have access to RevGen.

Is there any other way we can get the simple softphone for voice which can be modified. I loved the starter app which is so useful and makes customers happy that there is something out-of-the box that can be used right away.

We can't put that software here. I like the software too. Ask Genesys directly.

    Hi Sam,

I keep thinking about creating a GAD replacement (see the thread 'Time to shake up development' for details) that would probably do what you want. I'm just a little wary to do it as I don't know what's planned for GAD v8. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi, Sam,

we are going to offer GAS (Genesys Adapter Server) developed by us to Genesys community here starting October 1st that is built on Voice SDK and runs using Java.

I think you will find it to your liking. PM me your info and I will send you the basic info.

We have not decided if we are going to offer it for free (you will still need to pay Genesys license to Genesys), offer it open-source or charge for it. But, I think the age of softphone is gone and charging for it is rather silly.

I don't agree as well. Soft phone will be with us forever. You need some front end for agents either as self-standing soft phone GUI or integrated into CRM.

    Ecki,
    Cavagnaro,

I guess I pulled McCain here when I said the age of the softphone is gone, because what I should have said is that:
the age of leeching of softphone is gone, because I think it is time for most of the companies involved in Genesys development to move on from providing the basic popup functionality to something a bit more sophisticated and up-to-date.

Softphone is a core product for Genesys platform; however, I view it as a Windows message box - it is needed, but after ten years since its inception, it is hardly something to charge people for.

The way I envision it is like this:

    1. require people to purchase voice SDK license
    2. provide them with a stable version of softphone with interface open enough to integrate with third-party applications

Idea is to simple: while you need to pay for softphone licenses, I have seen way too many clients pay for a basic softphone a bit way too much only because they do not know of any alternative. Support is another issue that forces them to shell over 200K over and over again for the functionality that should have been included with framework for free.

As a side-effect, we will force the companies who are happy to just make their living from charging for softphone to innovate and move on to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with Genesys.

    What do you think?
