Job forum
« on: June 05, 2007, 04:07:17 AM »
Hi, guys,

I have been aproached by several people about posting jobs on the forum. There were also some posts that were yanked because of our no-advertising policy. I would like your input on job forum - do you think we need one?

I honestly have mixed feeling about this one, because not only there are a lot of sites already specializing in this, but also because I have inherent dislike for sleazy headhunters. Perhaps I am too childish, perhaps I am not modern enough, perhaps I need to get a hobby, but headhunters bug the hell out of me.

At the same time, it seems like with the current concentration of Genesys-related professionals, it would be natural to  let each other know about new opportunity to find both new project and new careers. No matter where you are.

So, I really would like hear your thoughts on it.

If we do decide to have a job forum, I want to make it easy for employers to find new talent and vice versa, while making sure that headhunters are either banned or required to pay a hefty fee which we will donate to UNESCO or use to buy Tony a new pair of shiny leather shoes.  :P

What do you think? (Yes, about the shoes, of course)

Best regards,
Vic

As long as they are kept to 1 job/role per post and not re-posted over and over, I think it might work.  But I would say that, since I was one of those suggesting it!

I don't need new shoes.  Well, not shiny ones, anyway...  ::)

How about making it free to employers and people who are actually looking for projects and charging any "consulting" agency (read "headhunters")?

I think we should put together a simple policy for this - something REALLY simple and says it all in one line of text, like:

Free Genesys CTI-related project and job postings (if you are a headhunter then buy Pavel a new dog) or something like this? But, I do not expect too many people to post there really... Way too many sites out there already.

I'm not sure how you enforce a payment scheme for Agencies but not for Employers.  Sometimes, some people are in fact both - an HR Department in a large company, for example.

I would say either it goes in as a free-for-all, or it stays out completely - and I promise to moderate as best I can...  ::)

I imagine it can work both ways too - for instance; if Pavel is on the look-out, he can show his availability and potential emplyers/agencies can view it here...  I imagine that would also bring in a bit more traffice, too... ;D

Hi, Tony,

thank you for offering to moderate it. ;D
I think that we should probably shelf it for a month or so, and then just have a poll later on in a summer asking if people would like something like this. And then move accordingly based on that.

As for headhunters and how to distinguish it from end clients - I think most people would be able to tell a difference between Verizon and Globus Consulting or some other bogus name like that.

I think having  a job forum here is really good idea  :D

Using this forum, contractors or consultants can get new projects, or employers can announce new projects and/or positions at their companies.

Couldn't wait...

I have just read this thread as i'm upto my eyes in MCR at the mo.

I think thats a great idea especially as I'll be looking for a role at the middle of September  ;D  ;D  ;D

For those of you you not up to speed with British slang
buy Pavel a new dog
means pass Pavel a brown envelope with a couple of thousand Pounds in it  ;D  ;D

Pavel,

you mean couple of "hounds" in it, right? Not "pounds"? :)

But on a serious note, I think it would be a good idea to have one, if people think it would be useful. I am very concerned about having the board flooded with useless posts by recruiters of less than sterling quality, so I am planning on setting a policy of free posts by end-users and fee based posts by recruiters. As you can see, I have very low regard for the recruiting industry, because even though I found some of the recruiting companies to be extremely useful, many of them simply care about the fee and do not give a signle after-thought about the person they are introducing. Many a time I have seen a person thrown into a position that they were not ready for and at the end, they would either quit or get fired. (In case you were wondering, it did not happen to me, but some of the companies we have dealt with were not as lucky!)

Best regards,
Vic

If you can set an expiry period (rather than having manual moderation to remove old posts) it would be good.

C'mon Tony, admitted!!! You just found him locked him in your basement and feeding him fried rats!!!  :o
Suddenly, I feel much relieved about not meeting you during my trip to UK! ;)

Well, yeah, he is still a member but it has been at least a month since his last post! I guess we are no longer challenging enough for him!

Best regards,
Vic
